Via Appia Antica

Appia Antica connected Rome, capital of the Empire to Brindisi, the most important port for the trade with Greece and the East.

It was probably the most famous Roman road which one preserves remainders.

Stazio, Latin poet, called it "Regina viarum", the royal way, for the splendour of the sepulchral monuments, its sumptuous villas, and for the suggestive beauty of the course.
